a digital alla prima portrait of Jerry Saltz, the American Pulitzer Prize-winning art critic, by Cal, the Artist. painted by hand in Adobe Photoshop using a process inspired by the wet-on-wet oil painting technique.

The Details

THE PROCESS
the idea was born in a flash of instant inspiration -- just a random afternoon, scrolling Twitter, when I momentarily saw Jerry Saltz reposting his old Sotheby’s moment, flipping two middle fingers new to an empty wine glass. the eye framed a storytelling composition before the mind even caught up.
unlike my vector hyperrealism, where precision defines every detail, WET PIXELS is about chasing an idea the moment it strikes, capturing the emotion through looser, more expressive brushstrokes.
and yes -- I know they only serve water at auctions, but isn’t it fascinating how just a hint of color in that glass can spice up the story?
